Michelle L. Mackay

Michelle is an experienced and compassionate lawyer who understands the emotional difficulty of family law matters. She brings to the practice of law civility, honesty, and a desire to amicably and effectively resolve each file. Michelle assists clients with all family law matters, including divorce and common law separation, custody, parenting, child and spousal support, matrimonial property division, common law property division, and imputation of income. Settlement and negotiations are always Michelle’s primary goal and objective with each file, but when that becomes obviously unattainable then Michelle has years of experience in family litigation. Michelle has appeared before the Provincial Court, Court of Queen’s Bench, and Court of Appeal of Alberta.

Michelle graduated from law school at the University of Alberta where she volunteered with Student Legal Services and participated in the Gale Cup and Jessup Moots. Michelle was called to the Alberta bar in 2001. She articled with this firm and has exclusively practiced family law since. Michelle has taught family law at the University of Alberta since 2003. She is an instructor with the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA), a facilitator with the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education, and has written and presented numerous papers at the Annual Banff Refresher Course in Family Law and with LESA. Michelle is also a volunteer with the Child Support Resolution Office at the Law Courts.

Michelle’s objective is to ensure that her clients fight the right fights in the appropriate manner. Along with her experience, expertise, and dedication to her clients’ needs and interests, Michelle has an excellent and well-organized support team that ensures ongoing and efficient communication between the office and her clients.
