Sam Rollans, Edmonton Family Lawyer

Sam enjoys finding creative solutions to difficult problems. He prides himself in giving clients an honest opinion of their chances of success, and in his ability to leave decisions in his clients’ hands while removing much of the stress and confusion of navigating the legal system. While his preference is always to negotiate and settle, he is ready and willing to take matters to court.

Sam has appeared before the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. He has represented clients on issues of divorce, parenting, custody, guardianship, access, child and spousal support, property division, and common law issues. He has a particular interest in unsettled or unusual areas of family law, and has additional experience in areas such as annulments, grandparents’ contact orders, provisional support, and interjurisdictional support.

Sam is a dyed-in-the-wool Edmontonian. He graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy, and received his Juris Doctor, With Distinction, from the University of Alberta in 2015. During law school, Sam won prizes and scholarships in areas including Taxation and Jurisprudence. He spent three years volunteering with Student Legal Services in their criminal and civil / family projects, and a year with Pro Bono Students Canada. He decided early in his legal education to pursue a career in family law, and to that end focussed his coursework on family law, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, and advocacy. He articled with Gordon Zwaenepoel prior to being called to the Alberta bar in 2016.

Sam is a husband and father whose interests include local history and home-brewing.
